Captain Peter Raven
Captain Peter Raven is Chairman and current Liveryman of the Honourable Company of Air Pilots. He is current Chairman of the trophies and awards committee HCAP Australian region, Freeman of the City of London, Past Vice President, Welfare Officer and Trustee of the Australian and International Pilots Association. Captain Raven is a past member Australian Federation of Air Pilots, and Aus ALPA. Captain Raven has been a Safeskies Australia Board Member since 2001, and a Company Director. Captain Raven’s flying Career commenced in 1964 Private Pilot, then in 1965 Commercial Pilot Flying Instructor. In 1966 – 2013 Captain Raven was a pilot for Qantas Airways Ltd.
During Peter’s time at Qantas he flew all Boeing 707 and Boeing 747 aircraft including John Travolta’s 707 and the 747 at Longreach. His last 8 years were spent flying 737’s in Qantas’s short haul division. Peter was a training pilot on the B747 for 20 years, and from 1981 to 1987 Route Supervisor Boeing 747. During this period, he also served on the pilot selection panel.
Regular training and flying has kept him current in matters pertaining to airspace use and management, emergency and safety procedures, cockpit resource management (CRM), and threat and error (TEM) management as well as drug and alcohol protocol and dangerous goods carriage. Peter is a member of the North Queensland Aero Club and fly C172 aircraft.
For his Bachelor of Aviation Studies Degree he studied aviation law, airline management and airport management.
Flying and managing aircraft in today’s world is foremost in Peter’s mind, and with this he takes a keen interest in the training of young people entering the profession.
