Captain Georgina Sutton
Chief Pilot and Head of Flying Operations, Jetstar Australia and New Zealand
Captain Georgina Sutton has been in the aviation industry for more than 30 years, first starting her career flying vintage gliders with the Scout Association in South Australia in 1977. Following this, Georgina spent the next five years operating scenic flights around Wilpena Pound, charters out of Broome and Darwin and RPT operations out of Adelaide, Port Augusta and Leigh Creek.
Georgina joined Qantas in 1989 and flew the new B747-400 and had the honour of flying Queen Elizabeth from London to Singapore on a Royal flight in 1992.
Georgina became a First Officer on Qantas’ Boeing 767 in 1995 and went on to hold roles as a CRM coordinator and an Air Safety Investigator for the Qantas Safety Department. She obtained Command on the B767 in 2001, and in 2003 moved to Cairns to operate 767s for the new Qantas entity, Australian Airlines.
Georgina returned to Qantas in 2009 and in 2012, she was appointed as the Fleet Manager of the Boeing 767 until its retirement in 2014.
At this point Georgina became Qantas Group’s first female Chief Pilot, taking up the role for Jetstar’s Australia & New Zealand airline overseeing 850 pilots operating the Airbus A320/321 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Georgina holds a command on the B787 and flies regularly on the Jetstar network.
